We got this beautiful note from Christine, Zoe’s mom. It brought tears to my eyes and I wanted to share it with all you dog lovers out there who have lost your dogs. I know you’ll be able to relate to Christine’s heartfelt letter about her loss.

Zoe–you were an incredible dog and will be missed.

-Kristin from WOOF

Christine writes:

Dear Kristin,

I thought I’d share something I wrote about Zoe last Friday to family and friends. I needed to do something before I went to bed that night, and attempted to write something earlier in the day, but couldn’t stop crying to see the screen. Below is what I shared with everyone:

Hello everyone,

Early this morning, Zoe passed away quietly in her sleep.
She fought a good fight, but we knew this day was coming when she was diagnosed with terminal cancer in Oct 2009. Through her chemo treatments, she was able to get into clinical remission until May 2010 when the chemo wasn’t helping anymore. We opted for a last ditch effort on an anti-inflammatory drug and an appetite stimulant to make her comfortable and help with her symptoms. Throughout this time, we kept up with acupuncture, Chinese herbs, dietary changes to minimize the cancer growth, and any nutritional supplements.

There was a noticeable slow-down in the last week of June, the turning point came on July 4th, and then seemed to change so fast from the time we left for work to when we came home.

We’ve been very blessed with her entrance into our lives, and it’s difficult to remember what life was like before she was here. She belonged instantly. There is a void in our home and in our hearts; she’s everywhere you look and a piece of us feels so incredibly empty. To me, there will never be enough Zoe time because she tapped into my heart like nobody has ever done.

We want to THANK YOU all for your thoughts, prayers, blessings, love and light as you all know how much she was a part of completing us as a family.

— Christine, Ryan and Thor

Linda H. is the premier goat sitter at WOOF. Here is what she recently emailed me about Salt and Pepper, two extraordinary Mill Valley goats that we care for when their owners travel:

Hi Kristin,

Here are my favorite goats, Salt and Pepper. They come when you call their names! They love alfalfa. And I think they are smiling, don’t you?

Linda H.

And my response?

Hi Linda,

Yes, Linda, they are definitely smiling. Probably because you are their goat sitter. Animals of all kinds LOVE you.

Many of our Marin County pet sitting clients hire us to care for their pets when they travel and many don’t realize that we also offer weekday, mid-day dog walks too.

Are you one of those clients who didn’t know we offer that service?

We actually started as a dog walking company in 1995 and evolved into a pet sitting company. Having our name be WOOF! Pet Sitting and Dog Walking Service seemed too long so we shortened it to simply: WOOF! Pet Sitting Service. (And we still provide dog walking even though it’s not a part of our business name anymore.)

Unlike most dog walking companies, we don’t walk many dogs at one time. In fact, the maximum number of dogs our dog walkers walk at one time is three dogs per walk.

And if you want a private walk for your dog we are happy to do that instead of a group walk. Just let us know.

We can do trail hikes, dog park excursions, backyard playtime at your home. Really, whatever you think would give you dog the most fun is what we want to do. So let us know what that might be when you meet with one of our walkers to discuss your dog walking needs. We are also happy to mix it up a bit so your dog doesn’t get bored. Who wants a bored dog? Not us. And certainly not your dog.

Here are 5 of the benefits for having your dog walked with WOOF! Marin County Pet Sitting (and Dog Walking) Service:

1) Your dog won’t beg, plead or give you the hairy eyeball to go on a walk right when you come home from work. You can just be with your dog without running out the door with leash in tow. What a concept. You can relax when you come up from work. Your dog can relax because (s)he has already had a great walk that day!

2) Your dog will be leaner. No, I’m not talking wanting your dog to look like a supermodel but yes, I am talking health here. With being leaner comes a longer life expectancy and a zeal and zest for life that you will visably notice after your dog has gotten into a regular walk/run routine with one of our walkers.

3) Your dog will sleep through the night. Thus you will sleep better through the night. Enough said.

4) Your dog can make friends. That’s right: if you sign up for a small group dog walk (3 dogs maximum) your dog will actually make regular doggie friends that (s)he will see at a regular time on regular days and develop a relationship with these dogs.

A couple of weeks ago one of our San Anselmo dog walking clients called to let us know that she was walking on a trail near her home and her dog went bounding after two other dogs on the trail. Her dog was howling (which he never does) and obviously beside himself with joy. You guessed it: these dogs were his WOOF dog walk buddies.

Our San Anselmo client only knew her dog’s buddies by name (not by sight) and when the “two dog owner” called her dogs, our San Anselmo dog walk client realized these were her dog’s friends! It literally brought tears to her eyes since her dog in an “only child” and now has his dog walking siblings. (Siblings that she doesn’t have to feed or pay vet bills on. She says it’s the perfect for her and her dog!)

5) You can go to work worry-free knowing your dog is having a total and utter blast in nature, running, playing and being the dog (s)he was meant to be! We are here to guarantee that your dog has a blast. And we intend to make sure that happens with each walk we go on.
